No matter which of Disney’s 4 theme parks I decide to celebrate with the grandkids, there is plenty of fun to choose from. Let’s take a look at the countdown of my top 7 activities!

7. 4th of July Golf Cart Parade

Every 4th of July, Fort Wilderness guests go all out submitting their personal golf cart creations into the Golf Cart Parade. The parade usually starts at 4 pm. If your family would like to enter the contest, be sure to pre-register June 24th to June 30th at the Bike Barn. My grandkids love to see all the creative ideas and wave their American Flags as the floats go by. The Reedy Creek Fire Department also brings their big fire truck at the end of the parade. My grandson thinks the sounds the fire engine make are super cool!

6. Fort Wilderness Beach Bash

After enjoying the parade, we like to head over to Clementine’s Beach for an all-out Beach Bash complete with live DJ, games, contests, movie under the stars, dancing and so much more. This was also where they announced the winners of the Golf Cart Parade floats. Donald Duck was even there, dressed as Davy Crocket! The parade goes from 6pm to 11pm. This is also a wonderful spot to see both the Electrical Water Pageant and the 4th of July fireworks at the Magic Kingdom without the massive crowds!

5. New Festive Snacks

Favorite Grampy loves to celebrate anything with food! Let your tummy celebrate the holiday too with limited time treats. Enjoy red white and blue dipped strawberries at Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs or a sparkly white chocolate dipped coconut macaroon at the Boardwalk Bakery. Be sure to also grab yourself a 4th of July Instagram worthy cupcake with an all-American apple pie filling from Creature Comforts or Isles of Java at Animal Kingdom Park.

4. Characters!

Favorite Grampy won’t be the only one wearing my red, white & blue on Independence Day. Many of your favorite characters will be greeting guests in their 4th of July best! The place to find them is at Epcot in the American Pavilion. There just so happens to be a funnel cake stand here too that has the largest Oreo funnel cake you will ever see! Best part is if you are on the Disney Dining Plan, it is currently only one snack credit!

3. Voices of Liberty

Also in Epcot, at the American Gardens Theatre stage, you will find the acapella choir Voices of Liberty. My oldest granddaughter is 11 and was just selected for All-County Chorus so this is a must do for us. Even if you do not have a musical bone in your body, you will appreciate the wonderful talent of these performers. Be sure to stop for a moment and listen to their beautiful sounds. You won’t leave the same.

Showtimes: 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 8:00pm (Subject to Change)

2. Illuminations with Special Finale

On any regular evening, Epcot has one of the best nighttime shows in the world. But on the 4th of July, Disney steps up their game even more, giving Illuminations one INCREDIBLE finale! Be sure to find a good spot to view the show.  Anywhere around The World Showcase is good as long as it has a clear view of the center of the lagoon. Better yet, book a private yacht through Disney and watch the fireworks from ON the lagoon. What a memory that would be!

Showtime: 9:00pm (Subject to Change)

And my favorite thing to do at Walt Disney World to celebrate America’s birthday is…..

1. Fireworks at Magic Kingdom

Nothing can come close to the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. Once you have seen this spectacular display, you will never be able to forget it. Our favorite spot is anywhere in the hub in front of the castle with an unobstructed view. Not only are there huge fireworks over Cinderella Castle, but the kids feel like they are surrounded! Fireworks will go off 180 degrees around you!

Showtime: 9:00pm (Subject to Change)

BONUS: Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern

No Favorite Grampy blog post can be complete without some more talk about food. Arguably, the most ideal dining experience on this special day would be a delicious lunch with the family at Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom. The grandkids can’t get enough of the Patriots Slush with the light-up cups (Got to get at least 5 of them, one for each child and then myself!). Grammy always get the Freedom Pasta with Chicken while I can’t resist that famous Tavern Keeper’s Pot Roast. Save room for dessert though! THE most awesome dessert from all of Disney property is here at Liberty Tree Tavern. This addictive substance is called The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. One bite and I was hooked!
