FAQ for Advance Reservations
“ADR” stands for Advance Dining Reservation – essentially, it’s Disney fan shorthand for a dining reservation at a table-service restaurant. You’ll hear planners say “Make your ADRs at 60 days.” It’s not a special type of booking; it’s the same as reserving a table at any restaurant, just done through Disney’s system in advance. Securing an ADR is highly recommended for any table-service restaurant you really want to experience.
Walt Disney World is home to over 100 table-service restaurants spanning fine dining, character meals, dinner shows, and more. While quick-service (counter service) eateries don’t require reservations, the popular sit-down restaurants will book up, especially during busy seasons. An ADR guarantees you entry to the restaurant (at the reserved time) and is essentially your ticket to enjoy that meal. If you show up without a reservation, many full-service restaurants will be fully booked and unable to seat walk-ins.
In short, an Advance Dining Reservation (ADR) is just the Disney term for an advance reservation at a Disney restaurant – making these ahead of time can greatly enhance your trip, ensuring you get to dine where and when you prefer rather than leaving it to chance.
New Disney World dining and experience reservations open up each morning at set times. For most dining locations, the fresh day’s slots go live around 6:00 AM Eastern Time (give or take a few minutes). It’s wise to be in the app or on Disney’s website by 5:45 AM, already logged in and ready to search, and then refresh right at 6:00 AM for the best chance.
Reservations for Enchanting Extras (special tours, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Savi’s Workshop, dessert parties, etc.) often open at midnight Eastern at the 60-day mark. In fact, many high-demand experiences can be booked online as soon as the clock strikes 12:00 AM 60 days out – and they do fill quickly. Guests staying on-site can book those for their length of stay at midnight of their 60-day mark as well.
So, a strategy is to book your must-do tours or boutique reservations right at midnight, then get a few hours of sleep and be up before 6:00 AM to book your dining reservations that same morning. In summary, midnight for extras and 6 AM for dining is the rule of thumb for each new day’s reservations.
Yes – guests staying at an official Disney Resort hotel (or other eligible hotels like Disney Spring resorts, Swan/Dolphin, etc.) get a helpful perk often called the “60+10” benefit. This means if you have a valid Disney hotel reservation, you can make dining (and other experience) reservations 60 days before your check-in date, plus up to 10 days of your trip in one go. In practice, at 60 days before your arrival, the reservation system will let you book dining for your entire length of stay (up to 10 nights) all at once.
This gives on-site guests a head-start for reservations later in their vacation. For example, if your check-in date is June 5, you can book dining not only for June 5, but for the next several days of your trip (through roughly June 14) on that same initial booking day. This advantage is why you might find more availability for popular restaurants toward the end of an on-site guest’s trip – off-site visitors won’t be able to book those dates until a few days later. Off-site guests can still book all the same restaurants, but they must make reservations one day at a time exactly 60 days out from each desired date. There’s no 10-day extension for off-site, so you’ll need to log in each morning 60 days ahead of each park day to reserve dining. Bottom line: staying on-site lets you secure reservations for your whole trip 60 days out, which can make it easier to grab those hard-to-get spots.
No park pass reservation is required for most standard tickets at Walt Disney World as of 2024. Starting January 9, 2024, guests with date-based tickets (the typical tickets where you select your visit dates) do not need to book a park reservation — your entry is guaranteed for the date on your ticket.
However, certain ticket types do still require reservations. Annual Passholders, cast member passes, convention tickets, and other non-dated admissions must still use the Disney Park Pass system for now. Even for those, the rules have been relaxed: Annual Passholders can visit any park after 2:00 PM without a reservation (except Magic Kingdom on weekend afternoons). In summary, if you bought a regular dated ticket or vacation package, you won’t need to reserve a park – just show up with your ticket.
If you’re an Annual Passholder or special ticket-holder, check if a reservation is needed for your first park of the day.
For Walt Disney World vacation packages (hotel + tickets packages booked through Disney), the final payment is due 30 days before your arrival date. When you book a package, you’ll typically pay a deposit (often $200) to secure the reservation. The remaining balance can be paid in installments or all at once, but it must be paid in full by 30 days prior to check-in day. For example, if your check-in is July 31, your payment deadline will be July 1. You have until the end of that due date to pay the balance; Disney does allow you to pay on the exact 30-day mark without penalty. If you book your trip last-minute (within 30 days of arrival), full payment is due at the time of booking.
It’s easy to make payments online. Log in to My Disney Experience and look under “My Plans” for your reservation details – there will be a “Make a Payment” link if you have a balance due. You can also call Disney to pay by phone. Note that room-only reservations (if you only booked a hotel without tickets) have a different policy: those require a deposit (equal to one night’s rate) at booking and the rest is typically due on check-in day at the resort. But for packages with tickets, remember that 30-day final payment rule.
Missing the final payment deadline could result in Disney canceling your reservation, so set a reminder. As a courtesy, Disney usually emails a reminder a few days before it’s due. There’s no automatic charge to your card on file, so you are responsible for going in and paying by the due date.

Making Disney Magic Simple with Favorite Grampy’s Planning Tool
You know what breaks my heart? Watching families miss out on those special Walt Disney World moments because they didn’t know when to book things. After years of Grammy and me planning trips with our grandkids, I created something that takes all the stress out of Disney, and makes sure I get the reservation I want.
My Disney Advance Dining Reservation Calculator is like having your own Disney-obsessed grandfather (that’s me!) sitting right beside you, making sure you don’t miss a single magical moment. Because let’s be honest, planning a Disney trip shouldn’t feel like solving a math problem at 2 AM.
Why This Calculator Makes Your Disney Trip Way Better
It’s Crazy Simple to Use
Listen, I’ve watched Grammy try to count backward 60 days from our vacation dates while balancing her cross-stitch on her lap and getting gum out of our grandson’s hair. It’s not pretty! That’s exactly why I built this thing to do all the math for you.
Just pop in your trip date, and boom – you’ll know exactly when to wake up and start clicking “book now.” No more counting on your fingers or using that calculator app while your kids are asking what’s for breakfast.
The best part? Everything opens at different times. Resort rooms? That’s 365 days out (if you can believe it). Dining? That’s the famous 60-day mark. Some experiences open at midnight, others at 6 AM Eastern. My calculator keeps track of all this craziness so you don’t have to.
Saves You Hours of Research Time
Instead of spending your evening scrolling through Disney Facebook groups asking “when can I book Be Our Guest?” (again), my tool gives you everything instantly. It’s like having that super-organized friend who already figured out all the complicated stuff.
Here’s the really good part – if you’re staying at a Disney resort, you get what I call the “magic 10-day advantage.” On your 60-day mark, you can book restaurants for your entire trip. People staying off-site? They have to wake up every morning to book one day at a time. Yikes!
Helps You Snag the Good Stuff
Cinderella’s Royal Table? Gone in literally minutes. Character breakfasts at Chef Mickey’s? They disappear faster than homemade chocolate chip cookies at Grammy’s house. The calculator tells you exactly when these bookings open so you can set your alarm and be ready.
Most dining opens at 6 AM Eastern Time, but special experiences often open right at midnight. Trust me, knowing this ahead of time is the difference between getting that perfect reservation and settling for whatever’s left.
It’s Not Just About Restaurants!
Here’s what most families don’t realize – tons of Disney experiences need reservations way in advance. My tool covers all the good stuff:
Behind-the-Scenes Adventures:
• Walking through Magic Kingdom’s secret tunnels (yes, they’re real!)
• Caring for Giants – getting up close with elephants
• Behind the Seeds – seeing how Disney grows food in their greenhouses
• Wild Africa Trek – a private safari adventure
• DiveQuest – swimming with fish at EPCOT (if you’re certified)
Princess and Character Magic:
• Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – the ultimate princess makeover
• Character meals at Chef Mickey’s and Crystal Palace
• Cinderella’s Royal Table – dining in the actual castle
• Akershus Royal Banquet Hall – princess breakfast in Norway
Really Cool Unique Stuff:
• Savi’s Workshop – building your own lightsaber
• Droid Depot – creating a custom droid
• Amphicar Tours – riding in cars that drive on water!
• Fireworks Dessert Parties – private viewing areas
• Disney’s Wilderness Lodge boat rentals
• Spa treatments (because parents need pampering too)
What Happens When You Miss Your Booking Window
You Might Miss the Magic
Picture this: You promise your little one they’ll eat breakfast with Mickey Mouse, then find out it’s completely booked for your entire trip. You just let your baby down. Heartbreaking, right? These character meals are often what kids remember most about their Disney trip. We have many fond memories of character breakfasts that date back over 40 years.
Some experiences only happen once a day with tiny guest limits. Miss booking Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and your future princess might not get that magical transformation. You can’t have that! And what if you don’t get into Savi’s Workshop? Your Star Wars fan won’t build that special lightsaber they’ve been dreaming about since they saw their first Star Wars movie.
It Gets Expensive Fast
When you can’t get restaurant reservations, you’re stuck with whatever’s available. That usually means:
• Waiting in long lines at quick-service spots when everyone’s hangry
• Eating at weird times that throw off your whole day
• Paying more for fancier restaurants because that’s all that’s left
• Wasting precious park time traveling to restaurants miles from where you want to be
Your Perfect Plan Falls Apart
Disney trips are like puzzles – everything connects. If you planned to eat at EPCOT but couldn’t get reservations, now you might need to shuffle your whole schedule. Maybe switch park days, which means rebooking other experiences. It’s like watching dominoes fall. The stress of fixing everything during your vacation? Nobody wants that.
How Smart Disney Families Use This Tool
The families who have the absolute best Disney trips start planning about 6 months out. They use Favorite Grampy’s calculator to mark all the important dates on their calendar, then treat booking day like the big deal it is.
Many folks take the morning off work just to focus on getting reservations. They have their credit card ready, their Disney account logged in, and sometimes even multiple devices going. Sounds intense? When you get every single reservation you wanted, it’s totally worth it.
The smartest planners check my calculator several times while planning, especially when deciding if staying at a Disney resort is worth the extra money. (Hint: those booking advantages often make it completely worthwhile.)
Why Favorite Grampy’s Tool Is Special
What makes this calculator different from all the other planning tools out there? Simple – it comes from the heart of a real grandpa who wants to help other families create amazing memories like he does with his family.
I’m not some big company. I’m just a Grampy who’s seen that pure joy when a child hugs Mickey Mouse for the first time. I’ve watched four generations laugh together on Small World. I know these aren’t just vacations – they’re memory-making adventures.
Every detail in my calculator shows I get it. I list which restaurants have characters, which tours work for little kids, and which experiences have height requirements. This isn’t just data – it’s wisdom from someone who’s been there and seen what makes kids’ eyes absolutely light up.
Making Your Disney Dreams Come True
Using my Disney Advance Dining Reservation Calculator is like having a Disney-loving Grampy help plan your trip. It takes something super complicated and makes it simple. It helps you avoid costly mistakes and missed opportunities.
Most importantly? It helps ensure your family experiences those special Disney moments that become treasured memories for years to come.
Whether you’re planning your first Disney trip or your tenth, this tool helps you navigate the tricky reservation system like a total pro. Because at the end of the day, Disney magic shouldn’t be about stress and confusion.
It should be about joy, wonder, and precious time together as a family. That’s exactly what Favorite Grampy is here to help you achieve.
